What is ICMB?

An international meeting point for moisture-safe buildings

The International Conference on Moisture in Buildings is a biennial conference for the international community working on moisture in buildings, building materials and the built environment. The series was created as a focused meeting place for people studying, designing, assessing, repairing and regulating buildings where moisture affects performance, durability, comfort, health or risk.

Previous editions have brought together academics, practitioners, industry and the wider research base around moisture-induced damage in the built environment. Recurring themes include monitoring and modelling, ventilation and airtightness, retrofit, flooding and escape of water, material performance and decay, indoor mould, historic and traditional buildings, health and wellbeing, climate-induced hazards, education, and the financial, insurance and legal context of moisture problems.

ICMB27 continues the series after ICMB21, ICMB23 and ICMB25. The first edition was held online in 2021, the second as a hybrid conference in 2023, and the 2025 edition in Guimaraes expanded the platform with proceedings and open publication routes. The 2027 edition is hosted in Ghent by Ghent University's Building Physics Group, with UCL as series owner and UKCMB stewarding the ICMB series.

A forum for academics, industry, practitioners and policy-adjacent experts to exchange methods and insights.

Continuity

ICMB27 follows the 2021, 2023 and 2025 editions and brings the growing series to Ghent University.
