Hygrothermal studies of the built environment: from material data to reliable simulations. Three days moving from basic moisture physics and material properties to reliable numerical analysis, combining lectures, exercises and commercial-software workshops.
Program (preliminary)
Monday 13 September
Moisture physics in the (over)hygroscopic region
Moisture storage and capillary transport, with hands-on experimental work.
• Pore systems, sorption and moisture storage, from material tests to model inputs.
• Capillary transport, absorption testing and interpretation of liquid transport data.
Tuesday 14 September
Moisture physics in the vapour phase + degradation
Diffusion, convection and the degradation of stone, wood and biobased materials.
• Diffusion, convection and in-situ measurements in building assemblies.
• Moisture storage and transport in biobased materials.
• Moisture-related degradation of stone, wood and other building materials.
Wednesday 15 September
Workshops in commercial software
Practical software sessions in English — also open to Industry Day attendees — followed by the conference apéro.
• Commercial-software workflows for hygrothermal assessment.
• Interior retrofit and biobased wall assembly examples.
• Hands-on interpretation of simulation inputs and outputs.
Topic blocks are preliminary and do not imply confirmed lecturers or exact timing. The Day 3 software workshops are shared with Industry Day attendees and close into the conference apéro.
Venue
Ghent University, with easy access from the city center. The final room allocation will be confirmed closer to the event. See venue & travel details and accommodation.
Who & cost
Master students, PhD students, postdocs, researchers and practitioners are eligible to attend. Enrollment and registration are required. Student rates are reserved for enrolled students; researchers and postdocs who are not enrolled as students should use the standard rate.
